We need a TV advertisement of Bush flip-Flopping. There is certainly enough material of him going back and forth on important issues ranging from the 9/11 commission, to health care, to social security.
This has probably been mentioned already, but I want to take a different angle. The main goal of the ad should not be to criticize Bush for inconsistency. Other goals are more important.
What are these other goals? First, the ad should clearly tell the viewers that "anyone with a public record can be made to look like a flip-flopper." Second, the Bush flip-flop advertisement should explicitly criticize the Bush administration for trying to distract the American public from the real issues facing our nation by using smear campaigns against his adversaries. This second point needs to be driven home very hard. Instead of trying to address our country's problems like a real leader, the Bush administration spends all of its efforts trying to distract attention from these problems and runs a smear campaign against anyone who points them out. People are dying, our economy is in shambles, and Bush's response is to avoid dealing with these problems. Third, and most important, the viewers should be told to take a look at Kerry to see how a real leader addresses the problems his country is facing. (More realistically, this would have to be a series of ads).
Kerry can easily win this election if we can focus the attention of the voters on the real issues that we face . . . health care, Iraq, education, and the economy . . . and most importantly the positive record and ideas that Kerry has on them.
It is my opinion that some of the 527 ads (from our side) have recently been distracting voters from the tangible aspects of these core issues, and it has hurt our effort. Oh yes . . . I know the 527s have used their millions to point out Bush's failed leadership, and a majority of the voting public now has a very low opinion of Bush . . . but that kettle cannot be made much blacker!!!
To those promoting the "my pet goat ad" please do not take this personally . . . I think the advertisement will have a very marginal effect. It would have been a great ad five months ago, but it has now already been established that Bush has failed. Now we need to give Kerry some room to deliver his positive message and most importantly to do away with the impression of Kerry as a flip-flopper so the public will be receptive to his message. Kerry really will be a fine President.
