Am I the only person to suspect that the reason Bush hasn't caught bin Laden, or put any effort into catching Bin Laden, may be because he doesn't want to catch him? Or that the ramifications of catching bin Laden are worse than having him remain at large?
This is my own personal conspiracy theory. It is simply an extrapolation from the known facts. In a nutshell, it is this: Bush cannot afford to kill bin Laden. Let me explain...
We're all familiar with Bush saying that he doesn't worry about bin Laden, and doesn't think about him very much.
We know that GHWB (41) was in a meeting with the bin Laden family at the Carliese Group offices on 9/11.
Bin Laden's family bailed GWB's failed Harken Energy company out.
Members of the Bin Laden Family were allowed to return to Saudi Arabia on private jets immediately following 9/11, without being questioned, in spite of all commercial flights being grounded.
That the Bush family has long been involved in Middle East skull-duggery - GHWB was heavily involved in the Iran Contra Scandal.
Bush has made little effort in tracking or trying to capture bin Laden. He didn't send the troops to Tora Bora, he disbanded the unit set up to track bin laden, and, of course, he got "distracted" from capturing Bin Laden by invading Iraq.
I don't think he was distracted from capturing Bin Laden, I think he invaded Iraq to distract US, the American people, from the fact that Bush was not after Osama.
Are we to believe that the no one in the extended Bin Laden family can contact Osama Bin Laden? Are we meant to believe that there are no back channel communications between Osama and his extended family? That no one in his family is sympathetic to Bin Laden, or even on speaking terms with their golden boy?
I believe this is what happened on 9/11. That following the "my Pet Goat" episode Bush and family made back channel contact with the Bin Laden family. And the Bin Laden family made a back channel communication with Osama. And a deal went down that was based on the mutual interests of these two powerful clans.
We know what bin Laden wanted.
- He wanted American bases out of the "holy land" - the Saudi Peninsula. He got it a couple of months later. All American troops withdrew.
- He wanted a guarantee of the personal safety of his family members in the US. Done.
- He wanted a guarantee of this own personal safety. Done. So far, Bush has not made any serious effort to kill Osama, and in fact distracts America from this failure with the debacle in Iraq.
What did Bush almost certainly want from Osama Bin Laden?
- No more terrorist attacks in the "Homeland" - at least on his watch. (So far so good).
Of course, there are a number of other ancillary benefits - perpetual war, huge profits for his "base" - the energy companies and those companies that service them, and the means to turn America a fiefdom with one family holding all the power.
It is possible that Bin Laden may have been able to force the deal - if he was able to put three teams of suicide bombers in the USA, it was certainly in his power to have put a few other teams - and perhaps a dirty bomb (or two) - in a large American city, whereabouts unknown, but able to be detonated should bin laden meet an untimely demise or any of the other conditions not be met.
God help us when a Democrat becomes president. Or if impeachment proceedings were to gain momentum. Bush might just feel the need to eliminate Osama. And all bets would be off.
Like I said, it is just a theory. But it fits. Doesn't it?
Cheers,
