Michael Moore is saying that HMOs were born when Edelman talked Nixon into it with the argument that Kaiser in California had come up with a way to deny care to people and make a greater profit. I'm wondering....
...whether there is documentation of this conversation between Nixon and Edelman -- documentation that's available to us non-film-maker folks and that's authoritative enough to use in debates over public policy.
Anyone have any ideas?
The current governor of Wisconsin, Jim Doyle (D), is pushing hard to hand over our state's most vulnerable citizens (sick and disabled poor people) to a handful of HMOs. Unbelievably, his stated goal is to have 100% of our Medicaid beneficiaries enrolled in an HMO. Doyle is, more and more, a DINO, and this effort of his is the latest evolutionary phase of a fraudulent program begun by Tommy Thompson (yes, the same goofball who just dropped out of the GOP presidential race).
Wisconsin seems to be the last place on the face of the Earth that people still think that managed care is a good thing. I'm fighting back -- a losing battle, but I'm still fighting -- and I would love to use the Nixon story. I just want to verify it before I use it.
Any help out there?
