Yes, YOU. We know you're out there, scoping the lefty blogosphere to see how we're chortling with glee over Larry Craig's fall from grace. Read wmtriallawyer's diary for our true sentiments on the issue. Larry Craig is gay, not that there's anything wrong with that. It wasn't the gay part that got him into trouble. It was the hiding it part. We're not celebrating that. We're just having a bit of schadenfreude at his expense. It will pass pretty quickly.
No, the Craig Scandal has once again turned the spotlight on the biggest problem the GOP has these days: You have your priorities all wrong.
Take a good look at the frontpage. See that pic of George Bush and John McCain with the birthday cake? In the diary that commemorates the day we lost one of our most beloved cities? Oh, you missed it? No surprise there. sigh
Here's where progressives and Republicans differ. While you guys are obsessing over Larry's bathroom breaks and whether he is family value oriented enough, you forget all the rotten things your leadership caused or let happen over the past 7 years.
Let's take a walk down memory lane, shall we?
This list was not exhaustive. I didn't even mention the corruption of the Department of Justice to rig the game next year for the 2008 election season. This is left as an exercise for the reader.
When you see it all together, it's a little breathtaking, isn't it? Just one president (and one co-president) is responsible for all of this. Just one of these items would have been enough to blacken the reputation of any of the other presidents we've ever had. If Bush got bad advice from his aides, he should have fired them. If he made all these mistakes on his own, YOU should have fired him. But you were too busy worrying about whether two gay guys were getting it on to be bothered with little things like national security assets.
This was YOUR president. You voted for this guy. You voted for his cronies in Congress. You are responsible for this. Not dirty f^&*ing hippies. Not Bill Clinton. Not Osama bin Laden.
YOU.
You bought the racist pandering, the "poor, poor, pitiful me" routine from the wealthy who don't want to ante up their fair share, the "poor people can always go to the emergency room" BS that drives up insurance costs for all of us. Oh, it's not like you didn't have help. Your Republican leadership in collaboration with Fox News studied your psychological makeup and learned how to manipulate you with terror, missing white girls and titilating sex scandals.
And this is what they persuaded you to vote for. (See list above)
In the whole scheme of things, Larry Craig's indiscretion is a minor blip on the radar screen. Most likely, he was blackmailed by the likes of Rove and Cheney to do what he was told or they would unleash righteous fury on him from the religious among you. He'd never work in DC again 'cos Republicans hate gay people. The response from you guys is always so predictable so Larry fell into line. Larry has never been one of you. Larry was a slave to the GOP machine.
Now do you understand why it's so important for people to embrace who they are? To not keep secrets that others can exploit for their own good? To mind your own business and stay out of other people's bedrooms so you can focus on whether they'd be good public servants?
No, of course not. You're "Republicans".
That word is going to be the new "liberal" in the next generation. Enjoy your exile. Consider it your rebuilding years.
