My nephew is a very bright, thoughtful and interesting young man. He's 25 years old.
He called me last night and was behaving, well, odd... He was upset, excited, worried. He told me that he'd been thinking about what may happen to society, the planet, us and his sudden concern told him to dig deeper, that perhaps there was more to this than he thought.
So, he gets on the internet and starts looking things up. He began telling me about a website he wants me to read so we can talk about it. He said I would be the only one he could talk to because I'm open-minded and wouldn't roll my eyes at him or minimize his real concerns somehow.
He said his concerns started a couple of weeks ago when he watched a program on Discovery about the Da Vinci Code. Well, I had read the book and loved it! But I'm also a skeptic. As entertaining as that book was, some things I'd need to see with my own eyes...
So, needless to say, what's driving him is some irrational fear about the end of the world. (Seems to drive alot of people these days!) But that doesn't mean his fears aren't real, just perhaps misguided.
Anyway, I'm all for reading and researching the odd and mundane. Conspiracy theories are, for me, great entertainment! But I can recognize where truth ends and conspiracy begins, most of the time.
As a result, during our phone call last night, I gave my nephew the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps he had found something valid, interesting and worth reading? Plus he was begging me to check it out so we could talk about it. And how can I deny a nephew who loves his Aunt so much?
So, I actually go to the website today.
http://www.echoesofenoch.com/
The first word I see there is "Ministry" and I got a weird little feeling in the pit of my stomach and thought, "Uh oh, this isn't going to be good..."
He told me to specifically go to the Roswell link:
http://www.echoesofenoch.com/index.cfm?id=38295&fuseaction=browse&pageid=43
So, I did and I read it. But that sinking feeling did not disappear.... I mean, some of this stuff is way out there. Like the Germans in WW2 colonizing "inner earth" through Antarctica. And on and on it goes. However, the website uses "references" and quotes from "doctors" interspersed with quotes from the bible for God's sake! To the untrained eye, it may appear legit. But I have serious doubts.
So, my question to you, dear Kossaks, is:
- Am I wrong? Is this site and its information legitimate? Or is it some kind of weird cult?
- If I'm right and it's just a bunch of hooey, how do I tell my nephew that without insulting his intelligence and genuine concerns?
- Is there some way I can prove that this site and its information is simply fiction?
Thank you for your time...
