I was watching the Republican Debate and saw something that I think everyone should know about. This is my first diary, and I think that this is an excellent opportunity to post it because I haven't seen the outcry that I expected and the backlash that this deserves. Please help me bring this to the attention of all who missed the debate. BTW the MSM didn't miss the debate.
I suppose many of you have been at the YearlyKos convention today and missed the debate. I hope all had a wonderful, productive convention and a safe trip back home. Well, I saw something in it that has become the catalyst for my first diary. I don’t know how this was missed by the MSM, but I hope you can help me make it into the news cycle here if nowhere else. I have two points to make in this, my first diary. 1) The Republic Party is at war with the working class, and 2) the working class doesn’t even know it and this only helps them do it.
I was listening to the debate as I read, and I heard Mitt Romney say something in response to a question regarding healthcare that he should have to answer for: "People who don’t have insurance aren't paying taxes." I wrote it down so I am certain that this is exactly what he said. The Republic Party has engaged in a war on work, or more precisely those who work, if they believe that people who don’t work don’t pay taxes. The reason people don’t have insurance is because they don’t have enough money left after they pay for all other items that supercede health insurance in their hierarchy of needs, such as food, clothing, shelter, childcare, utilities and the taxes placed upon all these things. The taxes as a percentage of their gross wages are likely to be greater than the effective tax rate that Mr. Romney pays. His statement shows that he has an understanding of how most Americans live that will prevent him from being able to represent us ably.
This is supposed to be a government of the people. That means you and me and all other citizens- not just the lobbyists who make careers out of being involved or the Senators who seem to believe they are members of the House of Lords. Therefore, it is our responsibility and duty to know these things and discuss them with each other. We, as a people, have abdicated our responsibility, and that is the real cause of all these problems in government. We can be misled as a people because we haven't performed our due diligence as American citizens. The situation is such that someone like Mr. Romney make statements like this with impunity because most of us don’t bother noticing.
I couldn’t find a video of the debate. If someone can show me where to find it, I will include a link (if I can figure out how.)
As I said, this is my first diary. I am honored to have the opportunity to give back to the community just a little, tiny bit of what you all have given to me and others like me. Thank you.
