Think fast. What does "The Hunt for Red November" mean to you? Is it:
- A really awesome sequel?
- The motto for the American Communist Party?
- The secret plan to extend the war in Iraq for at least two more months?
- The slogan on Fred Thompson's web site right now?
If you picked that last one, you're right.
I mean, seriously? Is Fred Thompson even trying anymore? He's a mockery of himself. It's hard to express just how terrible of a motto this is.
If Fred really wanted to capitalize on his movie career, not go for one of the ones where he played a President? Why go for this one?
Does anybody else see anything terribly creepy and disturbing about calling your election victory a "red November," even just to make a silly pun work? Red could refer to blood, communism, anger, war, or a thousand other bad things. It's not a color you want to ally yourself with.
Maybe I'm overthinking this. Maybe he just means Red like "red state." Except that "red October" wasn't just a cool submarine name. The sub was named after the Bolshevik revolution.
No, you know what? I'm sorry. He's just got lazy campaign workers who think they're clever and aren't thinking things through. I'm not going to try to read any cynicism here. After all, I shouldn't assign to malice what can be be explained away by stupidity.
But I'm still gonna post the diary because it's just such a terrible slogan.
