Many of you know me as part of the gay couple that protested the playing of an anti-gay bible verse over an intercom at the Fort Lauderdale Airport in May. Subsequently, my partner and I started an organization to fight against hate and discrimination directed at the LGBT community. The organization is called Fight OUT Loud. We most recently have been working on the fight against the anti-gay comments of Ft. Lauderdale's mayor. All of these events have prompted me to run for city commissioner of Oakland Park, a city that is adjacent to Ft. Lauderdale.
You can find out everything about our summer of activism in today's Miami Herald.
This summer, I was able to witness government at its worst with the divisive and hate-filled crusade of the mayor of Fort Lauderdale. Instead of working on our affordable housing crisis, increase in homelessness, difficult tax issues, among others, he manufactured a crisis that did not exist. I thought it was important to now stand up and fight for the things that matter to those in our community and for fairness and equality for all of our residents. I have been active locally since I moved here, but felt the need to step up now. This race is likely not on many people's radar, but I felt the only way to counter the ineffective and anti-gay mayor of Ft. Lauderdale was to run for office myself.
Please help in any way you can. You can find out more about me at Anthony09.com. As always, any contributions will be helpful to get me started ($250 limit and you don't have to live in Florida to donate).
