This has been a long time coming, but John Doolittle has finally been subpoenaed in the on-going Abramoff investigation.
California Rep. John Doolittle said Thursday that the Justice Department has issued subpoenas to him and five of his staff members seeking office records going back 11 years in connection to the congressman's relationship with jailed lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
It's also reported that Doolittle will fight compliance with this subpoena:
US Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA) said Thursday that he would fight subpoenas issued by the US Department of Justice for documents, including legislative records, relating to disgraced former lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Doolittle's lawyer said that the Justice Department had overstepped its authority in demanding the documents, noting that the Constitution forbids the executive branch from intervening in legislative affairs.
And news of this development comes on a day when RedState.org (Doolittle has been a guest blogger at this site) launched a campaign to support and fundraise for Eric Egland, one of Doolittle's Republican primary challengers. Coincidence?
Stay tuned.
