Time and again our congressional representatives seem to not understand the nature of George Bush and his administration. A prime example of this was just recently posted over at Huffington post by Bernie Sanders.

More on the flip side.
"President Bush desperately needs a budget director who is not afraid to tell the president the truth about these harsh economic realities, not an echo. He needs a budget director who will make him face the facts, not fan his fantasies. And, perhaps most importantly, he needs a budget director who is willing to compromise with a Democratic Congress for the benefit of all of the American people, not just large corporations, and the wealthy few. Unfortunately, I am afraid Jim Nussle is not that person."
The above demonstrates the point. All George Bush needs is someone reality based to stand up to him and show George the truth and George will do the right thing or at least allow his appointee to do his job.
As anyone who was paying attention back in 2000 or over the past seven years knows That is not going to happen.
First George Bush is not going to nominate someone who has not been shown to already support Bush's views. The Criteria that George Bush uses to appoint people are.
- How loyal they are to him.
- How much they support his preconceived ideas.
For arguments sake lets assume though that someone reality based is appointed and does insist on facts and sane policy. It would not change anything. George Bush is an ignorant, narrow-minded fool. You could spout facts and figures at him all day and he would not listen if what you are saying does not jive with whatever idea he has on the subject already.
Secondly nothing would change because George Bush and a large segment of people in power in the Republican party just don't care. Their only goal is to stay in power and rob and pilfer as much money as they can for themselves and their friends as they can get away with.
Its why "compromise" with this administration is so dangerous. There is a time to compromise and a time not to. We are clearly in a time when compromise with the other side is not a good idea. Its as though America has a sliver in its finger and it is starting to get infected. What needs to be done is to remove the sliver and start some antibiotics and put a band-aid on it, but the republicans say no we need to amputate the whole hand. The Democrats hem and haw about how thats such a terrible idea, but instead of standing on principle and doing what needs to be done. They say well we'll compromise and pass legislation to amputate just the finger. Both are terrible ideas.
While that may be the textbook definition of a compromise. It is not something we want to actually happen, not when there are much better alternatives and not when in reality such "compromise" is nothing more than capitulation to the other sides idiocy.
It is time for the Democrats to grow a spine and show some leadership, the people will back them. But thats not going to happen as long as they keep thinking George Bush and his administration is someone they can find common ground with. Its not going to happen there is no common ground with these guys It is their way or be damned.
Pretending that a responsible advisor here or there is going to pierce Bush's bubble is a pipe-dream and one that should be gotten rid of quickly. You are not going to be able to make significant change until Bush is gone either by impeachment or by his leaving office in 2009.
