Most of you already know that I have been diarying for Bill Richardson on Daily Kos for a long time. I firmly believe that not only is he the best candidate for President from either party and that he will be the party nominee.
Earlier in the primary season the conventional wisdom among Kos'ers who doubted Richardson's primary legs seemed to be "he would make a great Vice President" or "Would love to see him put his diplomatic skills to Secretary of State." But lately I have seen it suggested, notably by Kos himself yesterday, that Richardson take on Pete Domenici for the US Senate.
I understand this position. I, too, would like to see the old man and his pajamas out of the senate. And to be fair, Richardson could probably administer an electoral smack down to Domenici. I think it is fair to say that Richardson could beat anyone in any race in New Mexico. He is at a 71% approval rating, there is no one in New Mexico like him, the only one who comes close is Tom Udall. Oh, and watch Gino Zamora. I know he is headed for greatness here in NM (and he is very handsome, therefore fun to watch!)
Here is my point though...Bill Richardson possesses a great deal of political talent. He has the best diplomatic skills of any candidate, the most foriegn policy experience, and is the only one with executive experience. He has been a wonderful Governor. His energy plan is the most thorough and bold. His Iraq plan is the most direct end to the war. And Richardson alone represents both Change and Experience, two things America desperately needs to restore our position in the world.
It would be a shame to waste that talent.
