I read This story the same as anyone else. I decided to check to see if the source is a true source and if there are any facts to the story. Seven days before the story is posted this spoof parody was posted, on March 23rd, along with several variations of the same 'joke' story to many news sources each one citing a report that does not exist, or a book that does not exist.
I found This spoofed article and many other "joke" articles posted on March 23rd, March 22nd, etc that cite reports that don't seem to exist, and books that don't seem to exist.
That could be why the media is not covering it.
The article is one big fallacy other insects pollinate plants and corn and grass are pollinated by the wind.
Snopes investigated this as an urban legend and found that Einstein isn't a bee expert nor did he ever made a quote about bees.
In fact there are web sites dedicated to making up Einstein quotes.
Note that March 23rd the spoof article is posted as well as many "seed" articles, then March 30th it gets posted to blogs like DailyKos and by April 1st it is all over the blogs. Notice the time of year and that it is known for prank articles and the day the bulk of the conversations fell on, April 1st. This cannot be a coincidence.
I traced some story submissions as anonymous sources from IP addresses to a UCLA campus, where a group of college students seem to be playing pranks with fake stories trying to pass off as the real thing. I think it is some sort of assignment to see how gullible people are and how many news services they can get to post fake stories from "anonymous sources" and spread it in the blogs as well.
A news service ought to check the facts of a story and see if the citations actually exist and if reports follow the scientific method.
This is dangerous, really really dangerous considering that Al Gore quotes were faked in many newspapers and the media and blogs, and the 2000 election was so close, that if the newspapers had checked their facts and thrown out the fake Al Gore quotes, Al Gore would have won the 2000 Presidential election. Can you see how yellow journalism can do major damage here? We need to hold newspapers, blogs, and media companies accountable for their reports and responsible for when they report fake or mis-information.
Edit Note: due to Scoop bugs and technical difficulty when I posted this diary, I couldn't read the comments in the diary I cited and it put "untitled diary" in my subject even though I tried to delete it.
