It's no secret that people think Al Gore would make a great president in 2008. Everywhere he goes he's asked if he'll run. Over one hundred thousand people have signed a petition in support of a Gore candidacy. And prominent figures such as Steve Jobs are urging him to jump in.
In California we've gotten together and started a group, California Draft Gore, to put Gore's name on the state primary ballot. We believe that if we're successful, this show of support will help persuade Gore to enter the race. But the job can't be done without your help.
In order to put Gore on the ballot, we need to collect 500 signatures from registered Democrats in each of California's 53 congressional districts. We will have from October 8 to December 4, 2007, to accomplish this. Everyone in the group is fired up to get Gore in the race, but we desperately need:
Web-savvy people: Our web team is enthusiastic, but small, and we need more people who can design webpages and set up databases. Programmers, graphic designers, multimedia experts--if you can code, we need you!
Media pros: We're relying heavily on the power of the Internet to spread our message, but we'll also be using more conventional media to get the word out. If you have experience in advertising/public relations or with TV, radio, or newspapers, we need you!
Campaign organizers: This will be a huge effort, involving hundreds of people over 53 Congressional districts, and we'll need coordinators to help organize them. If you've ever worked in a campaign of any size or kind, we need you!
Volunteers: In the end, our success depends on people who can pound the pavement to get signatures. We already have over 800 volunteers statewide, but we need many more to ensure that we meet our goal. If you can spare a weekend to go door-to-door with clipboard in hand, we need you!
