Wait. Sorry. That should have read: amnesty for the telecommunications companies that illegally wiretapped Americans.
Is it just me or does it seem that the republican'ts can’t wait to punish hard-working people, but can’t seem to bring their terrible-swift-sword of justice into play against those poor, poor, we’re-just-doing-our-job telecoms.
Now I’m all about fairness so since the entire asshat right-wing (is asshat hyphenated?) go crazy when anyone talks sensibly about illegal immigration I think we should apply their mentality when it comes to the telecoms.
In that every piece of responsible legislation dealing with immigration was shot down with the battle cry of "it’s nothing more than an amnesty bill yadda, yadda, bullshit..." We should then implore the republicant's to see the FISA bill their way. The FISA bill is nothing more than an amnesty bill.
Well now, that must change something.
More below the fold
And since the republican't party ALWAYS moves in the direction towards equal justice as in the Scooter Libby case, then the pending FISA bill is just another amnesty bill rewarding illegal behavior. The Senate republicant's should use their big, scary, NO-voices and shout down any attempt to pass a bill rewarding illegal behavior currently under consideration in the Senate.
After all, wasn’t it the repubican't mainstream that opined that any bill even hinting of amnesty was un-American in that it violated the rule of law, and the rule of law is exactly what defines the United States as the United States and blahditty, blah, blah?
Since most Americans are comfortable with the idea that immigrants who entered illegally or overstayed their visas and dodged prosecution for their crimes (misdemeanor offense) must pay a hefty fine, leave the country, not return for five years and get at the back of the line to do business in the US, it stands to reason that this should apply to all. No?
Doesn’t this amnesty, uh, I mean immunity bill reward illegal behavior? If so, the telecoms dodging prosecution for their crimes (felony offense) should be forced to leave the country, not return for five years, pay a hefty fine and get at the back of the line to do business in the US (they could hang out in Iraq). Right?
It’s obvious to me for republican'ts it’s not about the crime. It’s about the race, class and economic status of the perpetrator. It’s not the illegal behavior that concerns them too much; it is to which country club does the perpetrator belong? If the criminals are multibillion dollar corporations well then, oh well.
If the perpetrators are people, flesh and blood and hard working individuals with families just trying to better themselves, and not belonging to any country club, then by god, the terrible swift sword of justice must be brought down hard.
But corporations fellating the Bush Administration, nah.
