I know . . . I know . . . it's Ginny Browne - Waite. She of freedom fries. OF COURSE SHE'S AN IDIOT! But we now have confirmation that she is definitely NOT smarter than a fifth grader.
Just like every proud Republican, it seems Ginny was not paying attention during social studies/civics/government class (must be why she thinks we should only teach math and writing in our schools). Ginny never learned that Puerto Ricans and Chamorros are American citizens:
Brown-Waite, R-Brooksville, was complaining about parts of an economic-stimulus package when she referred to residents of Puerto Rico and Guam as "foreign citizens."
". . . The bill sends hundreds of millions of dollars to people who do not pay federal income taxes, including residents of Puerto Rico and territories like Guam. I do not believe American taxpayer funds should be sent to foreign citizens who do not pay taxes. Americans want an economic stimulus for Dunnellon, Brooksville and Clermont, not for San Juan or Hagatna. As the legislation moves forward, it must be changed to ensure that only federal taxpaying American citizens receive rebate checks."
But Ginny isn't just ignorant as to the composition of our citizenry, she's got a good old Republican mean streak. When a group of Puerto Rican activists organized by the Orange County Democratic Party came to her District Office today to protest her slight to their community, she issued the following statement:
I send a warm welcome to all the protesters on their visit to Hernando County,I think it is wonderful that some Floridians have come so far to see our City of Brooksville. I hope that during their day in Hernando County the protesters can find the time to spend some of their anticipated tax rebate checks with local businesses. And, if the group needs to cool off, I recommend that they head down the road to Weeki Wachee for a fun afternoon at our water park.
It is disappointing that the Orlando partisan race hustlers who traveled to Hernando County today have chosen to continue the politics of division.
Now, one can certainly argue whether citizens who don't pay federal taxes should get the tax rebates. But apparently asking for recognition of one's citizenship by a member of Congress makes one a "partisan race hustler".
How long until the election? 'Cause this level of mean spirited stupidity gives me a headache.
