I know it's all about the national campaign, the primaries and states named Texas and Ohio...and that's all good...but we have a Senate to win back (obviously it is not really ours is it Joe?) and one of the key opportunities is in Maine. Some pundits and bloggers have said that Susan Collins is fairly moderate, not too awful and that her challenger Congressman Tom Allen faces an uphill fight. That's not what Bill from C&J says but others. Let's put at least half of that to rest shall we? Allow me to share a video...
First, let's let this video do the talking
Seen it? Get it? Tom Allen supports killing troops, burning the flag, torturing children and tearing down the country. He's in league with extremists like George Soros, MoveOn and Code Pink. This video is being shown out of state to potential funders but not being shown in the state of Maine. Can you wonder why? Do you think it would belie Ms. Collin's moderate image just a wee bit?
If you don't know Congressman Tom Allen, get to know him I can tell you he is a committed, thoughtful, strong progressive who has fought for change. In short, he gives a damn. He did not vote for the war resolution for instance.
The media in Maine has responded to this blatant smear campaign by issuing a total of one editorial. The state's largest newspapers, TV's have ignored it. It's like it isn't happening.
Collins is not a moderate. Far from it. Her votes for the war, for Alito and Roberts, for cutting federal funding to Maine, for Bush's giveaway to the wealthy and for not holding oversight hearings on war corruption have laid that to rest. Yes, Tom Allen does have an uphill fight but he is a fighter, he's a serious candidate and is making inroads.
But imagine if a similar video were being distributed sliming Clinton, Obama, Udall, Shaheen or many others? I can see Kossacks up in arms, writing LTE's, donating and volunteering for the good Democrat. I hope this gets your attention. There's a lot at stake and you don't need me telling you what to do. If you can donate, please do. Know someone in Maine, urge them to do an LTE.

And thank you from the great State of Maine (where we have near blizzard conditions today Damn You Bill)

I made a small donation to his campaign last summer, and once I get out of college in May, get back home to Maine, and get my old job back I'll be sure to donate a LOT more. I was going to give to Obama, but I think I'll be giving it all to Tom. Any idea when we can see ads about how much money she's taken from lobbyists? That would be a huge issue this November.
