For those looking for a change from the endless Wright vs. Tuzla smackdown, I've got a little bit of good news today.
Charlotte NC Obama HQ is ready to open and it's looking good!
This morning I had to wait at home for a guy to come install my new dishwasher. I checked my e-mail. Last night I had gotten an e-mail from the Obama campaign about helping out in North Carolina.
Dear kismet,
The North Carolina primary is coming up on Tuesday, May 6th.
Over the next week, supporters like you will be getting together across the state to talk about campaign strategy and how to get started organizing in your community.
No previous experience is necessary. All you need is a passion for change and a willingness to turn your enthusiasm into action.
Come to an organizing meeting near you, meet our campaign staff and fellow volunteers, and get involved.
Find a meeting in your community and RSVP today:

You are an important part of a movement for change that is growing across this country. Thanks to supporters like you, Barack has won twice as many states, more delegates, and more votes than Senator Clinton.
But we still have a lot of work to do.
Getting involved now -- while the campaign in North Carolina is still taking shape -- is a great opportunity to play an important role in our grassroots campaign.

Together we can help bring change to this country, starting right here in North Carolina.
So this morning I checked for my closest organizational meeting. And guess what? It's tomorrow...at the brand new Charlotte Obama HQ. They picked a great place for HQ -- it's on Elizabeth Avenue, smack in the middle of the main campus of Central Piedmont Community College (which has loads of local students) and directly between Uptown and the diverse neighborhoods of East Charlotte. The only problem is that the location's a little less inaccessible than usual due to construction at one end of Elizabeth, but the smart Charlottean will be able to figure that out, no problem (the newly arrived Charlottean might screw up and get funneled onto Independence Blvd, but that's a rite of passage that we all go through). Anyway.
Since I was already late to work, I thought I'd stop by HQ on the way in and see what's shaking. It's in the bottom of an office building that's been empty for a while, and they've got great space and good street-level visibility. When I came in everything looked like they'd literally just landed. I was greeted by friendly volunteers. I got a bumper sticker (yay), but was told that they don't have any yard signs yet (boo). I told the guy in charge that I planned to attend the meeting tomorrow night, but he craftily made me fill out a volunteer form anyway. (I wonder what my boyfriend will say if we suddenly have some out of state Obama volunteers sleeping upstairs...hmmm...considering that he's willing to change his non-voting status just to vote for Obama in the primary, maybe it will be OK).
The volunteer meeting is tomorrow at 6 p.m. Who's with me?
In other good news, I now have an Obama bumper sticker on my car, right below the NC Democrat oval, and above the Kissell for Congress sticker that's been there since 2006. But you probably didn't need to know that.
