So as we all had fun discussing who we thought should be the second name on the Obama ticket, I thought to myself, "who would I like to see in his cabinet?"
Some choices are obvious, some pulled out of your know where. All have one caveat, which is that I have excluded all these people from the VP slot. Obama and his team have their own reasons for choosing whoever they do, depending on how they want to run in the general, but the cabinet members don't need to carry/ help carry any states.
The list after the fold.
This is "Line of Succession" based. With those positions I know/care little about left out.
Secretary of State
Joe Biden. Joe Biden. Joe Biden. I want someone that yells at people about Darfur.
Attorney General
Here is a place I think we all can agree on the person: John Edwards. How better to get the "moneyed interests" out of Washington than to start using the laws that they are supposed to be following and actually making them follow them?
Secretary of Agriculture
My state's own Tom Harkin would be a nice fit. He is the chair of the senate's "Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry". Plus I know from his writings that it would be a responsible agriculture.
Secretary of Commerce
Barney Frank goes here.
Secretary of Health and Human Services
Ted Kennedy, he is chair of a similar committee currently in the senate, so this would be a good fit for him. I don't think he would take ti, but it would be a nice way to transfer power in MA as well.
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development
Jimmy Carter? A guy can dream right? You know that Carter would take this job in a second, it has been his post presidency life long ambition to help here.
Secretary of Energy
Bill Richardson anybody? Meet the new boss same as the old old boss. Either him or anyone at RMI specifically Amory Lovins would be good.
So that's my list, there are some things I was wondering about though on how Obama will choose his cabinet (in the poll).
Lastly I avoided the temptation to do a funny list, or a dream list. So it is shorter than I wish it to be. Plus I figured a bunch of you know your state people better anyway.
But be honest with a big enough margin of victory in November I think we could get Chomsky at Secretary of State. Is there anyone here who thinks he lacks the expertise, what being on of the most knowledgeable people in the world on the subject.
Also, putting Kucinnich as Secretary of Defense would be HILARIOUS. Or I guess for that matter Robert Byrd as Transportation, his name is already on every bridge and road in WV I hear.
