Today's Rasmussen tracking poll has been released, and Obama leads Clinton by 47-42, compared to 48-42 yesterday - indicating that support has essentially remained static for another polling day.
Rasmussen - March 30th
Some other information:
Clinton leads by 10 among whites, mainly due to a 23 point lead among white women.
Obama leads among white men, overwhelmingly among African-Americans, and solidly with voters under the age of 50.
Favorable/Unfavorable - Obama 49/48; Clinton 42/56; McCain 54/44
GENERAL ELECTION - Obama has closed the gap with John McCain slightly, with McCain ahead 47-44, compared to 48-43 yesterday. Clinton remains 10 points behind McCain (down from 11 yesterday)
MY TAKE:
Obama has remained consistently strong over the weekend it would seem, bucking the trend of downtrending in Rasmussen over weekends. Clinton has not gained in support against Obama, so the one-point drop is statistical noise. The metrics are interesting. Clinton still has a dominating lead among white women, so there remains no question that she is exercising strong emotional pull within that demographic group. Obama's recovery among white men is also excellent following the Reverend Wright controversy. He needs to perform strongly in this group, because he will likely lose it against McCain. The "strong" lead among voters under 50 is also interesting - could we be seeing the makings of the first "age" election in a very long time?
