Lamar Alexander, TN-SEN, has painted himself as a moderate Senator who takes a stand on the environment. Early on he did vote once or twice against the Bush administration but not in a big long while and that claim is just pure bull-hockey! He's in the pocket of Big Oil just like Bush, Cheney, Condoleeza and company.
Follow below to see a few brief cites. But before you do, put in the back of your mind, this great hope for Tennessee: Bob Tuke. Tuke's former head of the Tennessee Democratic Party, led the charge for Vets for Kerry statewide, and headed up Obama's Tennessee effort. He's a Vietnam vet and has a slim but growing chance. He needs donations and support.
Lamar voted for offshore oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico in 2006
and led the charge for offshore drilling off the coast of VIRGINIA(!) in 2008! By trying to attach it to the budget!
Pilot Oil, the Tennessee-based oil distributor, ranked 20th largest contributor and added $12,000 to Lamar's coffers in the 2002 Senate race. So apparently pleased with his performance in the Senate, they've upped the ante to $29,600 so far this election cycle, and are the third largest single corporate contributor this time around, just behind two other issues near and dear to his and most other Republican's black hearts: Healthcare and privatizing the Prison system.
As a veteran and friend to this military mom, Bob Tuke recognizes alternative energy solutions are an integral component to America's future. I won't put words in his mouth but he does mention ending corporate welfare to big oil and notes the high coast of gasoline is hurting the economy. It's a fair guess he'd be progressive and encourage alternative enrgy solutions in a big way, for our national security and economy and the environment.
So, do your part for mother earth today and lend your support to another "alternative solution to big oil" by helping Bob Tuke get elected.
