Just got a note from Matt Stoller telling me about an emergency action to deliver the Responsible Planto your local congresscritter.
There was no event for my Congresswoman, Carolyn Maloney, so I created one. We'll be seeing her local staff at 10am on Thursday, at 3rd Avenue between 92nd and 93rd. We're expected. So Kossacks from her district, sign up. Email me with questions jayATackroyd.org. And if you aren't in her district, and nobody has set up an event yet....
do what I did, and set one up yourself.
The Responsible Plan is an incredibly important initiative. It's the first coherent and clear statement of exactly what's wrong in Iraq, why we're not going to achieve any of the putative goals that Bush and McCain talk about and what the United States can do to extricate ourselves while damaging the US and Iraq as little more as possible.
There are no ponies, no fairy castle stories about political reconciliation, and a clear rejection of a permanent US presence in Iraq.
Moreover, it is an incredible achievement to have brought together over 50 challengers in a prefab, netroots-aware coalition. If we get the tsunami that I'm expecting (apparently, it's just me and digby right now in that camp) then a good fraction of these challengers will be in office, moving the center of the Congress closer to the Democratic wing of the party. The Blue Dogs will start seeing Al Wynn in their dreams, and they'll learn a lesson from Obama's campaign finance model.
This is a very concrete way to get more, better Democrats on Capitol Hill.
So if you're in my district, come on by on Thursday. If you're not, join up with a planned event. And if you're critter doesn't have an event set up--even in, nay, especially in, a red district, set one up.
I've done this stuff before It does get their attention.
Please use this diary to announce your own events in this action.
Dang. Almost forgot. On this topic, Darcy Burner will be joining me at Virtually Speaking, my Second Life interview program on May 15th to talk about, and kick off, SL activity in support of the Responsible Plan.
