I don't know if she forgot to do the quick math or has higher standards for the Vice-President than the person at the top of the ticket, but Mara Liasson said on Fox News Sunday that Sam Nunn was a little old to be considered for vice-president.
Except he's two years the junior to one senator from Arizona.
I won't name names out of respect for my elders.
First, let me say and give credit to the HuffPost, if only so you know I wasn't watching Fox. Ewwwww.
The headline was all about how Billy Kristol picked Richard Gephart to be Obama's VeeP choice. Blah, Blah, Blah... That's all well and good, but I don't think the Distinguished Gentleman from Illinois will be taking much advice from Kristol.
What apparently slipped through the cracks though, right before Kristol burst forth with his certainty about what's good for the Democrats was the last name Liasson mentioned, and, more importantly why he is a questionable choice.
If they need him (Rendell) to get Pennsylvania I don't think that's not such a good thing for the Democrats. Sam Nunn I think would be great, but he's a little old.
Now, according to Wikipedia, Nunn was born on September 8, 1938; McCain greeted the world on August 26, 1936*.
There's video over there, but I couldn't find the embed.
I'm no math major, but that makes McCain two years older than Nunn. Not a significant amount, but it does raise the question "Why is Nunn too old to be Vice-President and McCain not too old to BE president?" Or to put it another way, he's to old to be the standby guy for the job he's not to old to be.
Pardon me for being confused.
*Corrected from 1938
Oh, and since I only get one diary, Bob Novak can take his "Michelle Obama nixed the Obama-Clinton ticket" idea and shove it down his arrogant, treasonous throat. Maybe it would shut him up for a moment. Thank you for letting me get that out.
