Memo to Bush: Halloween isn't for five months. That's not a "cute costume" King Abdullah is wearing. And, no matter how much they may look like it, those sticks of uranium aren't "Applety Jolly Ranchers."
Lost in this weekend's blather about whether it's traitorous to meet with the head of a foreign government was what should have been the biggest story of the year: President Bush's failed hat-in-hand "request" for Saudi Arabia to produce more oil. That was embarrassing enough.
But what he did in return for the failed promise undermines any claim the Republican party has to being "Friend to Israel." Although Saudi Arabia denied his request for more oil, Bush went ahead and left the little housewarming gift he brought anyway...
Enriched uranium.
(Now who exactly is the "traitor" in this scenario?)
In case you missed it, Bush flew into Riyadh on Friday to meet with "His Majesty" on the famously lush horse farm paid for by American dollars. The President requested that "His Majesty" up oil production. "His Majesty" considered the idea for a moment or two but ultimately decided to increase production only by a "couple hundred thousand barrels a day"; an amount considered immaterial in the International sense. As the London Times described it:
In economic terms, there's a not very polite term for what the President was doing which describes the futility and discomfort of performing a certain bodily function into a countervailing breeze.
And what did Saudi Arabia demand in return for this incidental increase in production?
The White House said Washington and Riyadh were also to sign an agreement on nuclear cooperation that would clear the way for Saudi Arabia to receive enriched uranium for its reactors, without the need to master the fuel nuclear cycle itself as Iran has done. "This agreement will pave the way for Saudi Arabia's access to safe, reliable fuel sources for energy reactors..." [the press release said].
In other words, while the Republican Party kept the Country entranced with their absurd little "cup-and-no-balls" routine, your President waltzed into a Country that has decreed itself to be an "Enemy of Israel," and handed his boyfriend a little enriched uranium.
All in exchange for nothing.
But that's not the worst of it. Just to heap insult upon this stinking pile of crap is Bush's reasoning...why environmentalism of course!
"To this end, the United States and Saudi Arabia have agreed to cooperate in safeguarding the kingdom's energy resources by protecting key infrastructure, enhancing Saudi border security, and meeting Saudi Arabia's expanding energy needs in an environmentally responsible manner."
This is the kind of sick punch line only a cocksure jerk like Bush could deliver. Bush would stick a pipe up a polar bear's ass if he could suck a pint of 30 weight out of it's carcass yet he expects us to believe he's so "environmentally responsible" he's willing to risk giving the Seat of All Islam enriched uranium based solely on the promises of his bathroom buddy?
You tell me which act is more naive. You tell me which act is more deleterious to America's status as the World's Superpower. You tell me which act best protects Israel's security.
And which looks more like a "traitor"?
