Karl Rove has just been subpoenaed by the House Judiciary Committee to testify on June July 10. I just heard it on MSNBC. Will have a link to a story as soon as I can find one.
UPDATE: Special thanks to leney for finding the story, via the Chicago Tribune.
Now, Rove and other top-level Bushies have been subpoenaed before to no avail. Let's hope this time is different, especially in light of the statement Conyers made today (as quoted in the Tribune article):
"It is unfortunate that Mr. Rove has failed to cooperate with our requests," Conyers, D-Mich., said in a statement. "Although he does not seem the least bit hesitant to discuss these very issues weekly on cable television and in the print news media, Mr. Rove and his attorney have apparently concluded that a public hearing room would not be appropriate."
"Unfortunately, I have no choice today but to compel his testimony on these very important matters," Conyers said.
Let's also not forget this recent gem from Conyers:
Just off the House floor today, the Crypt overheard House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers tell two other people: "We're closing in on Rove. Someone's got to kick his ass."
Asked a few minutes later for a more official explanation, Conyers told us that Rove has a week to appear before his committee. If he doesn't, said Conyers, "We'll do what any self-respecting committee would do. We'd hold him in contempt. Either that or go and have him arrested."
The Judiciary Committee needs to assert its constitutional powers and make sure that Rove actually testifies, on the record, under oath. You can call the office of the Judiciary Committee to let them know at 202-225-3951.
You can also reach John Conyers and urge him to live up to his word by phone at 202-225-5126 or by email at John.Conyers@mail.house.gov.
Thus far, this Congress has not used its constitutional powers to enforce its orders. We need to tell the House leaders that's what the Sergeant-at-Arms and the Capitol Police are for.
Hopefully, this will be coming soon:
