As we await Hillary's speech tomorrow calling for unity and for her supporters to support Obama, will the Hillaryclinton.com blog be part of that unity action instead of merely promotion for Hillary 2012, Hillary as an independent candidate, an extension of McCain’s website, promotion of Obama the antichrist, and the winner of my medal for the best site for 1001 ways to thrash Obama!
UPDATE: Thank you Hillary for your wonderful speech. You reminded me and I am sure, many people, those qualities that we have always admired about you. Hopefully, given time, your call for unity will happen. Best wishes for the future, and all the best to you and your family. By the way, Chelsea is one admirable woman. You must be so proud of her. Thank you.
Ok, like the rest of the world, I am waiting with bated breathe for Hillary’s much anticipated concession speech, or is it endorsement, or possibly, suspension of her campaign or whatever the speech Saturday, 12pm ET will deliver. For the sake of world peace and all that, I will resist from saying, whatever.
I am glad that Hillary has finally decided to support Obama and as she said on various occasions, will work her heart out for him, bless. For me though, I would have preferred a Tuesday that was not dominated by Hillary’s gallant acceptance of the VP post, if offered, and her decision to completely ignore the fact that Obama had won the nomination in her ‘victory’ speech. But hey, the past is the past, so I am moving on... sort of.
I am very glad for this conciliatory spirit, party unity and putting your country first, but I have a challenge that I hope Hillary will take me up on. By the way, in case anyone thinks that my calling her Hillary is sexist, give me a break whilst I go and scratch my back. Hillary has made her first name part of her campaign theme and tomorrow, like in all her rallies, you will see tons of campaign approved placards with Hillary on it. And for my calling the other guy (in a non sexist use of the word guy) Obama, I think I prefer this to Barack because the abundance of vowels in Obama makes it easier for me to say than Barack, and also uses less energy. But maybe I should start saying Barack, it might help me lose a few pounds.
Ok I digress.
My challenge to Hillary is simply this. Whilst as a lawyer, I am all for free speech and all that, is there any chance that the blog section on Hillaryclinton.com could be part of the new unity action instead of merely promotion for Hillary 2012, Hillary as an independent candidate, an extension of McCain’s website, promotion of Obama the antichrist, and the winner of my medal for the best site for 1001 ways to thrash Obama!
Throughout the long primary, I have tried on numerous occasions to post on the Hillary blog. Nothing controversial, just the ‘normal’ email praising Hillary and asking for party unity towards Obama if he becomes the nominee. Of all these posts, exactly a big fat zero got published on the highly censored blog. My research has also shown that numerous other people have had their non anti-Obama posts rejected. I am not of course regarded as a persona non grata by the Hillary blog because even though non of my even tempered posts have ever been published, I am still worthy of receiving the regular emails asking for my donation. Ok, this is time for true confession. I live in London, England and I am British and can’t even donate. So why do I give a heck about US elections? That my friend, (McCain has spoilt the word friend for me), is another story.
In the interest of full disclosure, I must also confess that I am an Obama supporter. But throughout the last months, I could regularly read the Hillary blog to get a full picture of the two campaigns. But transition of the Hillary blog has taken a scary turn that needs addressing.
The Hillary’s blog has gone from the benign, you go girl blogs (non sexist of course), Hillary is the one, Hillary is just like Princess Diana, the Queen of Hearts (I am not joking, this is an actual entry), to the increasingly bitter comments about how Obama and the DNC (AKA the Elites), stole the election from Hillary (the Queen of Hearts).
The blog is now primarily a venting blog for all these people who claim that their principle would not allow them to vote for Obama who was ‘chosen’ by the party elders and not the people. Of course if you voted for Obama, you are not one of Hillary’s glorious 18 million voters but you are now classified as a non person.
So today, being a sucker, glutton for punishment, having too much time on my hands, and wanting an out of the world experience in an alternative universe, (all very dangerous attributes especially when combined), I once again checked out the latest blog comments on Hillary’s website. The blog is once again filled with venom and hatred towards Obama with very few pro unity or pro Obama comments, which are immediately shouted down with posts with angry anti-Obama sentiments.
In summary, the majority of these comments are people claiming all their families will vote McCain to teach the DNC a lesson because they allowed themselves to be hijacked by Obama and stole the election from Hillary. Wow, what a great way to use your right to vote. Other comments include people claiming to have registered as independents and even Republicans to vote McCain.
A great majority of the comments are promoting the notion that the best option is to elect McCain ("I can live with McCain for 4 years to get Hillary in 2012"), to allow Hillary to run in 2012. These people of course have taken it for granted that as long as the evil Obama, the insurgent, fails to win in 2008, Hillary, the Glorious will be crowned Queen, sorry President, in 2012. Logic is such a beautiful thing isn’t it?
If like me, you are a sucker for punishment, check out the blog yourself...or don’t.

So my challenge to Hillary is this, tomorrow when you give your speech, I will be hoping that it will be a good one. I will also be hoping that you will work your heart out, and do everything in your power to enable a Democrat, who is not you, to become President. I will keep an open mind and heart, and may even come to think fondly of you, even though I am finding it hard to keep your mocking voice about celestial choir singing, you and McCain having a lifetime of experience compared with Obama’s speech in 2002 from constantly ringing in my head.
My challenge is that suspension of your campaign will include your blog. I am not asking you to kill free speech, but I am hoping that your highly censored blog will at least provide a fair balance of the comments it regularly receives and allow some posts that propose unity and do not paint Obama as evil.
I am also asking you to recognise that perhaps not all of these anti-Obama comments are necessarily from your supporters. Some may even be Republicans because as we know, McCain is so exciting and ‘with it’, he has to pay people to blog for him.
So Hillary, this is one optimistic hopeful cynic, hoping that your concession and unity will include that secret weapon of mass destruction, the Hillary blog.
