In response to this diary.
In the interest of getting to 350, I am making enormous sacrifices.
I am sacrificing the $112 dollars I would have spent on car insurance to my savings account.
I have sacrificed 20 pounds due to riding my bicycle.
I have sacrificed tons of carbon dioxide in favor of shopping for groceries at my local farmer's market.
And in order to ease the burden of Corporate America, because after all, we wouldn't want to collapse the economy just to save the earth, I am shelling out the whole $12 it costs me to make sure my energy comes from 100% renewable sources.
I make these terrible sacrifices not for myself, but for all of us.
While we recognize that electoral politics are important, we also have to understand that anything that anyone can do to stop the climate crisis must be done, now, and if you need to, you can use your wallet or your own health as an excuse.
This isn't a time for false dichotomies. I want it all. Wind, bicycles, solar, slow food, biomass, hybrid cars, tidal, hydroelectric, geothermal, scooters, nuclear, carbon sequestration, flying less, reforestation, colocation, chicken fat as biofuel, cellulosic ethanol, turning off the lights when you leave the room, waste oil, a trusty pair of sneakers, everything that works.
What "sacrifices" have you made, or do you plan to make, to fight the climate crisis?
(Tip: "none" is not an acceptable answer.)
