Hello,
I'm new to Blogging. I have read the diary rules but I'm still learning the ground rules for this community. I have no intention, at this time, of ever running for public office. I do not want to go under that microscope. However, I thought I would like to put together a platform, of sorts. Perhaps someone does want to know how I feel on certain issues...
God
First, God does not care what you eat. Second, God does not care what adornments you wear. Most importantly, God does not care what religion you are. I ascribe to George Carlin's theory of the Cosmic Electron. God exists and is totally indifferent on the subject of our lives. God doesn't care if Gays get married or if drugs are legal or illegal. I think God created the laws of the physical and spiritual worlds and then sat back to watch with amusement. Finally can anyone find me the passage where Jesus lays out when it is acceptable to judge, scorn or hate your fellow human beings, I can't seem to find it.
Guns
I like Guns. I see them as the most efficient tool for shooting things. I consider Guns to be no more dangerous than Cars, which is to say I think both are very dangerous. Their irresponsible use gets people maimed or killed. However, I believe part of being an adult is being able to responsibly own and operate either, with a minimum amount of safety training and licensing. If you can't do that, then you should be severely punished according to your level of irresponsibility.
Gays
I'm all for everyone having the same rights. If someone has a serious problem with gay marriage on religious grounds, fine, have a religious definition of marriage. However, in a country of separate church and state, the legal definition of marriage can not be written by any religion. Perhaps, the legal definition of marriage needs to be more like a business partnership. Perhaps, one solution might be for Gays have all the same legal rights but not the use of the word marriage. It's called a compromise, think about it.
Israel
Is Israel the most arrogant country in the world..? It seems like unless you fawn over Israel without reservation, support every action they take and condemn every Palestinian for their audacity to want their home land, if you can't do all that, you must be antisemitic.
Taxes
No one wants to pay taxes any more. It's as if people think Governments can operate without money. Fiscal conservatives and Libertarians have done a great job of convincing people that we should have a tiny little government, no regulation, no social programs, no infrastructure, just three skeletal branches and a ridiculously large military.
I live in Wisconsin, where we have pretty high state taxes but, we get some real bang for our buck. We have good roads, fantastic state parks and a genuine quality of life that I don't see in many other states. We need to counter the 'taxes bad' kooks. Don't think of your taxes as extortion money paid to welfare queens. It's an investment in your country.
Abortion
Wasn't this settled over 40 years ago? Listen, I don't like abortion, adoption is preferable. I consider myself to be pro-life and pro-choice. I know this is confusing to some people. I believe in sex education in school and out of school. I believe we should 'preach abstinence' and accept that young people get horny and have sex. I believe that if you menace other people out of some sense of righteousness you are not really that pro-life. Why does it seem like the 'so called' pro-life people don't seem to care much about life outside a womb?
