I don't know about you but I need a rant right about now. This mornings talking heads have finally pushed me over the edge. I don't know if it's jealousy or not but I have had it with people being paid millions of Dollars to say stupid stuff. Stupid stuff I define as information we in the blogosphere know to be false but would face the full fury of the right if we actually accused these folks of out and out lying.
Let's look a the "‘Whining All The Way Through’ The Bad Economy" meme and who said it.
Phil Gramm
"We have sort of become a nation of whiners," he said. "You just hear this constant whining, complaining about a loss of competitiveness, America in decline" despite a major export boom that is the primary reason that growth continues in the economy, he said.
"We’ve never been more dominant; we’ve never had more natural advantages than we have today," he said. "We have benefited greatly" from the globalization of the economy in the last 30 years.
Fred Barnes
BARNES: He wasn’t wrong to say that. You know what this was? This was straight talk that McCain always says he’s giving it, and this is exactly what Phil Gramm did. He gave straight talk...They claim about how bad the economy is–and it’s weak, no question about that. ...They’re whining all the way through it.
George Will
WILL: On two points. ... We’re not in a recession as commonly defined. That is two consecutive quarters of negative growth.
STEPHANOPOULOS: We may be running there though. Even Bernanke says so.
WILL: We’re not however. Unemployment is just about the post-war average at 5.5 percent. His second point that we’re a nation of whiners: we are the crybabies of the western world. In fact, we have an extraordinarily low pain threshold.
