This front page Connecticut Post story by Peter Urban greeted my day:
Lieberman Looks Past Controversy
Christians and Jews quickly called on Lieberman to reject an invitation to appear again at this year's CUFI conference in Washington. Lieberman refused. He will address the group Tuesday evening and he will likely again praise Hagee and damn the political fallout.
Once again, Joe manages to supremely tick off people of both the Jewish and Catholic faith (which Hagee refers to as "The Great Whore)."
On the cufi.org Web site, Hagee's group has heavily advertised Lieberman's coming appearance at the conference to encourage members to register — at a cost of $200 — for the four-day summit. Lieberman also helped raise money for CUFI by participating in one of the organization's quarterly conference calls that are open to members who contribute at least $365 annually. CUFI heavily promotes the calls on its Web site. Lieberman briefed the group on the current situation in Israel and the Middle East and answered questions from participants.
Critics continue to complain about Lieberman's close association with Hagee and his Christian Zionist organization.
"It is inappropriate for Joe Lieberman and other Jewish leaders to be close to Pastor Hagee when John McCain even indicates that he does not consider him part of the American mainstream," said Jeremy Ben-Ami, executive director of J Street, an online Jewish political group that takes a pro-Israel, pro-peace stance.
For further icing on the cake, this headline was all over the Courant:
Lieberman Defiant As McCain's Wingman
Can someone provide a rock that we Nutmeggers can crawl under?
