In a state that at one point may have been considered a Republican stronghold, Democrats are outperforming Republicans across the board. In January the Democratic caucuses turned out over 100,000 voters, compared to 44,000 voters in the Republican caucuses. And now the RGJ is reporting that Nevada Democrats are outraising Republicans like crazy.
Just check out some of these figures...
Leslie, facing a little-known Republican challenger who raised no money, collected $63,500 in campaign contributions this year.
In northwest Reno, first-term Assemblyman David Bobzien, D-Reno, raised $78,767; his Republican challenger, state Board of Education member John Gwaltney, $22,500.
Assemblyman Bernie Anderson, D-Sparks, raised the most among Northern Nevada Democrats, reporting $92,575 in contributions this year. His opponent, former Washoe District Courts administrator Ron Longtin, raised $2,545.
These numbers are great, but they could be better. Establishing strong local organizations is the key to turning Nevada blue and delivering our five electoral votes to Barack Obama.
I've set up a fundraising page for a few of the Nevada races (the ones that ActBlue is accepting donations for). I'm hoping to get 1000 contributors before the end of August.
And now for something completely different, the latest from JibJab.
