As a student in San Diego I am blessed with the privilege of living about 5 minutes from some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. One of these beaches is La Jolla Shores. A gorgeous beach, popular with international tourists, it's one of my favorite places to go running, surfing and, on occasion, destroy my skin basking in the sun's warm embrace (Yeah, I like the beach, ok! I wear sunscreen... most of the time). La Jolla Shores is also close to the world-renowned Scripps Institute of Oceanography, and just a short walk away from UC San Diego... bastions of higher learning and scientific research. Where the world's future leaders, movers, shakers, and innovators develop ideas that will shape a better world for all of us.
Imagine my surprise when I learned that La Jolla Shores is not all sweetness, sunshine, and salty ocean breeze. It's also home to another American institution, one which is decidedly less learned...
JOHN MCCAIN.
This is a sad fact I just learned today which will now cast a gloomy shadow over every run I ever take down Camino del Oro, where his house is located. Not to mention I HAVE to wear sunscreen now, with the spectre of John "Melanoma" McCain haunting my every beach-going moment. Ok, Senator, I may not agree with you on offshore drilling, but I'll wear some sunscreen ok! Just promise me you'll never show up at the beach wearing bermuda shorts and a straw hat.
So Kossacks, I feel like I have been presented with a unique opportunity here as John McCain's neighbor. Ok, maybe not so unique, considering he owns an estimated 45 residences across the continental US, the man probably lives a a couple blocks away from just about everyone. Just humor me. I want to do something nice for him... something, neighborly.
Shall I deliver him a plate of freshly baked cookies? Shall I provide him with some literature from the local grassroots campaign office to familiarize him with Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama? Maybe... stick an Obama sign in his front lawn? T.P. his house?
The possibilities are endless. It's summer. I have a lot of leisure time. I need a new fun project.
Operation Casa de McCain is underway.
