I live in NW Arkansas and was pleased to see the number 4 WalMart open a mile from my house. The prices were low and the staff was friendly. I saw Sam there once driving an old pick up truck. I was proud that a local company could pass Sears to be the #1 retailer. But over the years I've been saddened to see an increasingly malevolent attitude toward employees, customers, other retailers, and their suppliers.
As of today I will no longer be shopping at that blood sucking company. I salute those of you who have already made that choice. If you are still shopping there you might want to check your receipt before leaving the store.
How WalMart drove me into this fury over the fold.
Over the past few weeks I've noticed increasingly long lines at check out. Lots of registers not open. I figured WalMart was saving every penny they could.
Today I stopped by there for a few quick items. I had to wait for the 4 people in front of me at the speedy check out to get to the harried clerk who was obviously moving as fast as she could. She gave me the receipt when I paid and I pointed out a double charge for one item. She said I'd have to get a refund at the service counter.
The service desk only had 2 people behind it; I had a dozen people in front of me. No way was I leaving then to save my time. After 20 minutes I got my refund.
WalMart makes money when people don't spot mistakes like that or when regular prices are charged for sale items. WalMart makes money when people who spot over charges decide it's not worth the time to get a refund.
WalMart just squeezed their last penny from me.
