Leno was joking around, and asks him for a million dollars (pocket money for John McCain) how many houses he has, and you won't believe his answer!*
*You will.
After two weeks of the Olympics, where Phelps was given the title of Aquaman, the Tonight Show was back, Leno as funny as ever, I believe. I'm not sure; as a political junkie, I was watching the Convention, hoping that the PUMAs wouldn't storm the stage when Michelle Obama came on (good thing they didn't), and after Ted Kennedy's speech, they played a clip from the Tonight Show, on television just hours before. It was Jay Leno interviewing (and making fun of and with) John McCain. But they played the clip that would catch anyone's attention:
Leno: "For a million dollars, tell me how many houses you have!"
McCain: "Well, I just want to say, being serious for a moment, that I was a P.O.W for five and a half years..."
And somehow, I was not surprised.
At first, I thought we were just overplaying it a bit. You know, exhaggerating the usage of the POW card; I was wrong.
Now, I've already made it clear what I thought about McCain trivializing his military service for political gain, and how it in turn trivializes the sacrifices of every soldier, but I think this might call for repeating myself.
McCain, if you believe the American People will side with you on every criticism, every gaffe, every scandal you have, are, and may gone or go through if you just say "I was a P.O.W for five and a half years", you are not just shameless; you're senile. We're not stupid. Also, as you cheapen your own military service, you cheapen the services and sacrifices of our soldiers who are out there fighting a senseless war in Iraq that you voted for and vow to continue to a hundred years, along with the soldiers of past wars. Don't get me wrong, McCain; we respect your service; we just don't want you to screw the nation as President, and we want real answers to questions, not the POW card, especially when it has absolutely no bearing on the topic discussed. It's senseless, it's immoral, it's pathetic, it's petty, it's stupid, it's wrong, and I have no more respect for you.
