Ok, I'm absolutely unable to think clearly at work because I'm a bit hungover from the Obama party I went to last night and am very antsy for the long weekend to commence so I might as well go out on a limb here and share with you the bizarre thoughts I'm having in my warped brain.
I'm having a hard time believing the Republicans have let John McCain make such a boneheaded move without some serious ulterior motives. They have to know Palin has disaster written all over her. More below:
When a stupid move like this actually has Joe Scarborough straying from the Republican expected talking point memo for the morning and dissing his candidate, something's rotten. Like or dislike Joe, he does know how to stay on message unless some bright guest flusters him.
So here's my theory. McCain being off his rocker is the message.
Barack Obama's epic speech and the incredible unity shown by Democrats blew out all hopes last night of McCain eking out an electoral college win by dirty politics or downright cheating. It's obvious to the neo-con cabal now that if they still want to pull off an upset, McCain is not going to get them there. They need someone more on the ball to stand any chance against Obama. Even the underlying racism in this country can't derail such a huge contrast in intelligence and public speaking ability.
My theory is that there will be a delegate revolt at the Republican National Convention. I don't know who they are thinking of putting in his place but at this stage of the game a guy on the convention center crew would probably do better.
This has Karl Rove written all over it. Another diary even told about comments he made earlier talking about what a dumb mistake it would have been for McCain to have picked Kaine because it would have amounted to pandering and he would not have been qualified to take office because of his lack of experience. My guess is Rove is now going to all the delegates and getting commitments from them to dump McCain in favor of some other candidate because he's losing his mind.
Talk this morning of postponing the convention because of the hurricane adds further intrigue to this possibility especially if all the details haven't been worked out.
That of course is the simply political possibility. With Republicans there could be a much more dire fate awaiting Senator McCain if the "dirty-tricks" guys get involved.
So anyway, here's what to watch for in the upcoming days if my predictions are true (of course I'm not sure I even believe them but this would make a wonderful novel plot).
- McCain will become more and more bizarre as his handlers feed him goofy stuff and inane suggestions. I'm pretty sure he's quite easily manipulated these days. The normally safe interviews he goes on will goad him into showing his irrational side.
- Network anchors, normally in his court, will become increasingly critical of his campaign. There will be major staff shakeups.
- Whoever the heir apparent is will start to get more and more face time on the conservative radio and TV shows.
- Rumors will begin that there are medical problems. Talk will begin about the steps that will have to be taken if the worst case scenario happens. Delegates will start talking about their indecision.
- McCain will be taken aside by the people behind the scenes and all the stuff they have on him will be threatened unless he plays along.
6.....?
Come on, it's Friday. We can have a bit of fun here eh? Who would be the anointed one? Would McCain be pulled out before the voting starts or would there be a mutiny? Would the drama steal enough of Obama's thunder to get the race close enough for them to steal?
