Narrator: Congratulations to Sarah Palin on being selected by John McCain to be his running mate.
In 1984 Geraldine Ferraro, a Democrat, was the first women to win her party's nomination to be Vice-President of the United States. Ferraro was a teacher, lawyer, mother and a district attorney. She served three terms in Congress and as an Ambassador to the United Nations.
Now, in 2008 -- 24 years later -- The Republican Party has finally allowed a woman to be nominated.
Geraldine Ferraro, talking to camera: Hi, I'm Geraldine Ferraro and I'm proud to support Barack Obama for President of the United States. It's great to see another woman running for office and I wish Sarah Palin well, but Barack Obama is the right choice for women, and the right choice for America. He supports a woman's right to choose while working to reduce unwanted pregnancies; he supports more research into women's health and equal pay for equal work. And Joe Biden wrote the Violence Against Women act.
Sarah Palin is against a woman's right to choose even in cases of rape or incest. John McCain would nominate more right-wing judges; he voted to weaken the Family and Medical Leave Act, against funding to prevent teen pregnancies and even against an Equal Pay Bill for women. And let's be honest -- Gov. Palin doesn't have a whole lot of experience.
Barack Obama and Joe Biden are the right choice for America and the right choice for women. I think so, and so does my friend Hillary Clinton. Hillary and I will be voting for the historic candidacy of Barack Obama in November. It's the right kind of change for all of us.
