With their newest lies and preposterous insinuations, McCain and Palin have abandoned whatever rudimentary sense of decency was left in Republican discourse. Pointing out their lies is necessary, but calling them liars is quickly becoming an understatement. An appropriate response needs to illustrate how far the offenders have crossed the line.
It is June 9, 1954 all over again.
That was the day when Joseph N. Welch told Senator Joseph McCarthy:
You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?
It is time to say "enough" to Senator McCain now. It is time to tell the American people that McCain has no decency.
I'd like to see an ad interspersing recent McCain attacks with the images of McCarthy hearings and Welch's retort. "Obama wants to teach kindergartners sex" - picture of McCain - picture of McCarthy - "Have you no decency, sir?" "Obama called Palin a pig" - pictures of McC*2 - "Have you no decency, sir?"
And it doesn't hurt that some senators have similar names. They have exploited Obama's name enough.
