Yesterday while having discussions on a couple of different message boards I was inspired to write the Canadian government about the upcoming American election. Here is my open letter to the Canadian government.
Note: I was just having a little fun with this, although the points I make are serious about the current state of our country.
Note 2: My apologies to New Mexico and Colorado. Those states are an island surrounded by shark infested Republican seas.
Dear Canada:
As you are undoubtedly aware, the United States is about to hold our presidential election. While many Americans are excited about the possibility of a President Barack Obama, many of our fellow citizens are just as excited about continuing the past 8 years of George W. Bush.
America's standing in the world has reached its lowest levels maybe in its entire history. We unilaterally invaded a sovereign nation unprovoked. We have ignored all international laws of torture and human rights. At home our government has ignored basic civil liberties, denied countless people of basic health care, and our education system and infrastructure are in shambles.
Despite these and many more reasons why a continuation of these policies would be a complete disaster for this country, many of my fellow citizens are afraid to vote for change. My proposal, should the American people fall for the lies of the McCain/Palin campaign, is for Canada to annex the area north of the New Mason-Dixon Line which I have depicted below.
This way the people who share similar values to Canadians will be spared from having to suffer through another four or even eight years of Republican rule. I know this would be a large commitment on the part of the Canadian people but I promise you the American people you would recognize as new Canadian citizens will be productive members in the new society.
I hope you will take my proposal under consideration and allow us to join your nation should November 4, 2008 not go the way we need.
Thank you.
PS: In exchange for your graciousness we will bring Hawaii with us.
