When Charlie asked Sarah about meeting foreign heads of state, she claimed that many Vice Presidents "may" (the weasel word here, by the way) have had the same answer.
The point is not to prove her wrong by listing those who did. The point is to list those who didn't.
The conclusion is obvious...
There are those who are enjoying researching past VP's to disprove her claim. There may be others trying to prove it (some commenters on the ABC blog think John Adams didn't meet any foreign heads of state because there was no air travel at the time. That would be John Adams the ambassador to Paris). But that's beside the point. Looking back in history, the most recent VP who probably had not met a foreign head of state was Spiro Agnew.
That's right. Sarah Palin just brought up Spiro Agnew as a model for her vice-presidential qualifications.
Sure, there are probably other awful VPs who would fit, but Agnew is still part of our shared memory. That is the meme we need to get out. When asked about qualifications for VP, Sarah Palin's best match is Spiro Agnew.
