Today is National Pet Memorial Day. It is a day for remembering the memory of those wonderful, special friends who are no longer with us. Two years ago today, I adopted a little family of pooties to honor the memory of my beloved 18 year old friend Shamu, who had died of cancer just two weeks before. I didn't set out that morning to adopt three cats, I just wanted a pair of kittens. A local feral cat rescue was offering an extremely cute pair of orange tabby siblings at a nearby pet store.

I sat in front of a Alphapet City most of that day trying to decide if these two pooties could somehow help to fill the void left in my life by the death of my Wilson. As I watched them, I couldn't help but notice how very close one of the kittens seemed to be to an adult calico cat in the same cage. It turned out that this calico had been paired with these two kittens as their foster mom and the three cats had become very close in the six months that they had been together. Oh boy. I really wanted the two kittens but, how could I break this trio up? The calico had had an especially difficult life up to then. She had been found on a busy street in Queens trying to get the attention of pedestrians by following them. The poor little gal had two misshapen legs and walked with kind of a funny waddle. I just couldn't bring any more pain into her life by separating her from the kittens and leaving her to wait for someone else who might want to adopt an older cat so, I took all three. Below are a few images of my little trio during these last two years. Please feel free to use the comments here to remember those Kossak pets who are gone but not forgotten
