If you are like me you are very occupied with the current presidential election. But the President's proposal for the bailout of Wall Street demands our attention. I just sent the following to all my email contacts. I suggest we all do the same. Feel free to copy and paste.
The President is proposing a $700,000,000,000+ bailout of the financial industry. This is being done without proper study and deliberation. The proposal is being criticized by economists on the left and the right of our political spectrum.
The costs of this bailout could go as high as one trillion dollars. This will be paid by us, our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. There are ways for those who caused this crisis to pay the costs of this bailout but these ideas are not being considered by our elected leaders. One idea is a stock transfer fee that would raise $100 billion a year. There are other ideas out there that must be considered. I suggest you read research them and find your own answers. This is about your future.
On Monday call your senators and representative and tell them to vote no on the current proposal. Ask them to only consider bills that will make those guilty of the excess of the recent past pay for their own bailout.
