Thanks to all of those who have commented on my past diaries on this subject. My purpose here is to provide a brief assessment of the state of morale on the dark side of the blogosphere.
Many, and sincere thanks to those who kindly pointed out the numerous spelling and gramatical errors in my last diary. I am happy to say I have set aside more time to make the diary less of a "teeth grinding" experience for any readers.
So long as there appears to be an interest I will continue to post this as time(and my supply of anti-nausea meds) permits.
Hugh Hewitt
Morale Rating: Still in alternate reality
Lots of stories about the mean old NYT and MSM bullying poor John McCain around. Obligatory pushing of the Ayers angle. A featured post asserting that sloth, not greed created the market meltdown. Though a long post it fails to offer any evidence to support the rather bizarre claim. He also identifies wall street nerds with their laptops and coke bottle glasses as the culprits rather than "Gordon Gecko" types.....sorry Hugh I really don't follow.
Equally strange is a post defending McCain's temperment and complaining that Obama is too well mannered and reflective. The post is in response to the George Will column which has stung the right this week.
Notable is the absence of any reference to polls or detailed breakdown of the EC map that would allow Hugh's readers to learn any real information about the state of the race. Guess Hugh really does believe no news is good news.
Outlook:While he hasn't thrown in the towel yet, Hugh isn't offering any suggestions for a McCain cabinet.
Michelle Malkin
Morale Rating:Full Court Foaming at the mouth
Well Michelle has gone beserk again this time over the bailout. Her blog is now in 24/7 stop the bailout mode which must be good news for us because she would be in 24/7 work for McCain mode if she thought it would do any good. Naturally the famously xenophobic Malkin manages to blame.....illegal immigrants (her label not mine) for the melt down. With Michelle it always comes back to immigrants.....the only thing she hasn't hung around their neck so far is global warming...but thats just because Malkin doesen't believe in global warming.....yet.
Outlook:Michelle seems to have little time or energy for McCain, she seems more interested in other issues. As Martha used to say thats a good thing.
Instapundit (Glen Reynolds)
Morale Rating:Election? What election?
Lots of bailout posts, the obligatory Ayers/NYT mention, nothing on polls, EC, trends, the debate strategy, advice, pleas, hopes, predictions, wishes, etc etc etc.
Outlook:Reading Instapundit you'd think we travelled back in time to July.
Nationlal Review Online, The Corner
Morale Rating:reality creep
Lots of commentary on the bailout, only right wing site that regularly reports bad poll numbers (gallup, ABC) numerous complaints about the difficulty of obtaining campaign material, such as signs, posters, t-shirts etc. McCain's group seems as dysfunctional here as they are everywhere else...could be a good predictor of their ground game efforts. Total ROFLMAO moment when I read a post that said when you go to the RNC website for merchandice instead of being directed to the McCain/Palin site, you get re-directed to the George Bush store.....oh that George...still screwing McCain over every chance he gets.
A few posts about NYT and Ayers....yawn.
Outlook:the first hints of resignation and acceptance are emerging
Powerline Blog
Morale Rating:More interested in the NYT than the EC
Reading Powerline this week its hard not to come to the conclusion that McCain/Palin are actually running to be President of the NSA (Newspaper States of America) against the NYT/WaPo ticket. (Should make for interesting debates). Many posts and comments are devoted to the topic of the NYT with one going so far as to claim that McCain's assualt will resonate with a large majority of the American people. Obligatory Ayers reference...one post even reveals that at one time Obama lived a mere quarter of a mile away from Ayers! Holy Hannah, thats almost as good as Palin's "I can see Russia from Alaska line". Who would have guessed that the GOP would be fighting this election on a geography theme...man they are cunning! The only reference to the specifics of the race is a pessimistic post about McCain's problems in VA, tinged with a bit of hope that somehow he can flip PA. No mention is made of the real bad news in all of the other polls or the fact that the trends are unmistakable.
Outlook:Sensors detect no signs of enthusiasm or optimism Captain.
The Weekly Standard (online edition)
Morale Rating:"Its religion stupid"
Articles claiming Nancy Pelosi is a bad Catholic, Sarah Palin is a good bible loving Christian, Islam is bad, ...you get the idea.
Really I'm not sure what to make of this....oh yeah there was an article on the bailout but nothing about the NYT (hmmmm Kristol is on the NYT payroll, maybe that has something to do with it....) or Ayers.
Again no mention of polls or the EC, or any empirical assesment of how McCain could possibly win this thing.
Outlook:It must be a good sign if the rightwing is resorting to prayer....
