Obama appears to now be aiming for McCain's jugular and the heart of his sleaziness. The road this latest commercial takes leads straight to Keating 5.
As a struggling and reluctant (but loyal) taxpayer who would be cleaning up under a Clinton economy, I find this grating. Where's my tax shelter? How much are these con artists stealing from America's bridges, schools, hospitals and military? And why is John McCain aiding and abetting these thieves?
"Country first" my ass. "Fellow privileged, crooked rich people first" is more like it. I checked McCain's tax plan for my cut--it wasn't there. So this must be what John McCain considers cutting taxes. To quote his press-averse sidekick, "thanks, but no thanks."
The washington Post provides analysis:
Bermuda's Royal Gazette reported last year that during a trip to the island, McCain "pledged to protect Bermuda's international businesses" and said he "understood the concerns" of insurance firms about legislation that would crack down on U.S. business operations in "so-called tax havens."
The paper quoted McCain as saying: "The industry, the re-insurance that's had such phenomenal success has been good for both nations. I would oppose any measures that would upset that." While the quote does not specifically address the tax laws governing U.S. business operations abroad, McCain's meaning is quite clear, since that is the predominant issue between the two countries.

Bermuda.
It’s more than just a vacation destination for John McCain.
McCain went to Bermuda...
and while he was there pledged to protect tax breaks for American corporations that hide their profits offshore.
And grateful insurance company executives and their lobbyists who benefit from the tax scheme, gave McCain $50,000.
John McCain. He took a vacation, and so much more.
And we get more of the same.
