I ran the Clarence de Mar Marathon from Gilsum, NH to Keene, NH today. This was my 50th state marathon. I've run more than 90 marathons, but today I completed a 17-year goal of running a marathon in each of the 50 states of the Union and Washington, D.C.
The course followed rural country roads through fabulous country, falls colors blazing, babbling brooks, and minimal traffic. There were a lot of yard signs evident. Being from Colorado I didn't recognize a lot of the local names, except John Sununu (Republican senator up for reelection) and his Democratic challenger, Jeanne Shaheen, former NH Governor (1997-2003).
What I found remarkable was the plethora of Obama yard signs along the course! Sure there were McCain/Palin signs, but Obama/Biden yard signs outnumbered them by two to one. Driving back to my hotel in Nashua along US 101 I saw the same ratio of Obama to McCain, including several prominent intersections with signs showing George Bush crossed out and McSame scrawled in red with "voted with Bush 90% of the time". My unscientific observation is that NH is way in play! Now back to my home in swing state Colorado tomorrow to GOTV!!
