As a black man I am sadden about where this party is taking the contest between Clinton and Obama.
It is bad enough when you have people like Drudge splashing "race war" all over his pages, and Obama supporters calling everything said about Obama racist, but when someone who is suppose to be objective, like Rep. Jim Clyburn, coming out and apparently not even understanding the quote made by Bill Clinton and saying this:
To call that dream a fairy tale, which Bill Clinton seemed to be doing, could very well be insulting to some of us, said Mr. Clyburn, who said he and others took significant risks more than 40 years ago to produce such opportunities for future black Americans.
However, if you heard or read the quote, you knew Bill Clinton was talking about Obama's stance on the war, not his candidacy itself. What a shame. So the highest ranking African-American in Congress could not pick up the phone and ask former President Clinton what he meant, before remarking to the press? Why are we determine to make this about race? I'm not even upset anymore, just depress.
I ask you this question: If people are claiming racism in the Democratic Primary, what do you think the General Election is going to be like? My god, could this country even survive if Obama was to become President?
Obama supporters have basically ignored how Obama has basically trashed the Clinton presidency, called Hillary a liar, "ambitious", etc...but as soon someone says anything negative about Obama, "the black race is angry"? Give me a break. We know the media cannot be hard on Obama, because they do not want to be called racist. So that is understandable. However, if I have had enough, how do you think the other races feel? How long before there is backlash of all the racism claims?
Now black people on Kos, you know, because "we" do talk about it in our circles, that every race that comes to this country dislikes us. We know the Asians cannot stand us, besides some Puerto-Ricans, the Latinos don't like us, but of course you have the white male liberals, who feel they must like us or at least pretend. So I guess my question is how are all the claims of racism going to help Obama to the White House? How many times did we hear over the past year, that blacks are no longer the largest minority group? You think that was not done on purpose? Do you really think the white Democrats, who don't hate the Clintons, like the far left, are just going to sit there and be more incline to vote for Obama because his supporters are claiming racism?
Sure some might say "blacks who are voting for Clinton, will see that she is nothing but a racist" and decide to vote for Obama, but you are only dreaming. The majority of blacks that are supporting Clinton are not doing it because we do not want to see a black President, we are voting for her because we feel she is the best candidate.
Everyday we go on with this election process, I start to understand what people like Shelby Steele, Jason Whitlock, Clarence Thomas and Larry Elder are talking about. And to black politicians like Jesse Jackson, Jr...what was your response to black people being killed and run out of Los Angeles by Latino gangs? Or how about the black kids from Katrina hit New Orleans who have basically destroyed the schools in Houston? Or the Jena 6 kids who basically are proving to be an absolute embarassment? Or to Mayor Adrian Fenty of DC...I saw you campaigning with Obama in Jersey the other day, when the report came out that the DC Public Schools are the worse in the country.
The main reason for this diary is I read a comment today on some liberal blog and it said "that's right Hillary, take our party back from the blacks." Is this is what it has now come to? I am pleading with both candidates supporters, advisors, etc....please stop with the race talks. It will ultimately destroy an already fractious party.
