Getting your head kicked in in one of the candidate bashing diaries? Ready for some respite? Come on in and talk a little playoff football!
Yesterday's action saw the Green Bay Packers' Ryan Grant bounce back from two(!) fumbles in the first minute of the game to rush for over 200 yards (a Green Bay playoff record) and 3 TD's (another Green Bay playoff record), while ageless Brett Favre threw for another 3 TD's as the Packers routed the Seahawks, 42-20 in snowy Lambeau Field.
Last night, the undefeated Patriots continued their march to perfection by dismissing the Jaguars, 31-20, in New England.
Previews of today's games and playoff poll after the jump...
In today's early action, the rested 13-3 Colts will attempt to avenge their regular season loss to the Chargers. That game saw super-QB Peyton Manning throw six interceptions and Adam Vinatieri, he of the last-minute heroics in two Super Bowls for the Patriots, miss a chip-shot game-winning field goal with a minute and a half remaining in the contest. The Colts are 10-point favorites in the match-up.
In the second game, the Giants travel to Dallas to face the NFC's top-seeded Cowboys. (Note: As an ardent Eagles fan, I guess I'm rooting for a six-hour 0-0 game -- called by the refs for lack of interest -- that traumatizes both teams so much they pack it in for next year also.) The (self-anointed) America's Team hasn't won a playoff game in over a decade and will be coached by playoff-career winless Wade Phillips. QB Tony Romo was observed preparing diligently for the match-up in Mexico with sidekick Jessica Simpson. The big question for Dallas will be the health of Terrell Owens. The Giants, who have already lost twice to the Cowboys this year, will be led by QB Eli "definitely not Peyton" Manning. Coach Tom Coughlin's toughest job may be convincing his squad that they are not dreaming... they are actually still in the playoffs. The Cowboys are favored by a touchdown.
