Watching all the buzz and fretting about superdelegates in recent days, I realized:
- I am unhappy with all the racist and sexist undertones beginning to infect the primary campaign
- I am concerned that the war crimes of Bush/Cheney are being back-burnered in questions of fairy-tales and tears
So......
I sought to focus my attention on (2) and away from (1). As Bob Marley sang,
"You know you just can't live that negative way"
Some Kossacks have thrown down the gauntlet to our candidates regarding their readiness to prosecute this administrations for its crimes. Others have pointed out that the candidates wouldn't be saying much about such matters right now.
Just as we search for extrasolar planets with hints of their gravitational impacts on stars, perhaps we can gain insight into the question of HR 333 through an analysis of their congressional supporters' stances.
To this end, I thought I'd survey the list of co-sponsors of HR 333, Dennis Kucinich's Cheney Impeachment Resolution. Here's the list of which of those are on record in support of our various candidates.
For Kucinich (1):
Rep. Kucinich (duh)
For Clinton (7):
Rep. Baldwin, WI
Rep. Clarke, NY
Rep. Jackson-Lee, TX
Rep. Payne, NJ
Rep. Towns, NY
Rep. Woolsey, CA
Rep. D. Watson, CA
For Obama (7):
Rep. Lee, CA
Rep. H. Johnson, GA
Rep. Clay, MO
Rep. D. Davis, IL
Rep. Ellison, MN (an actual Muslim)
Rep. G. Moore, WI
Rep. Schakowsky, IL
For Edwards (2):
Rep. Grijalva, AZ
Rep. Wynn, MD (curiously, a target of netroots candidate D. Edwards in the primary)
Not committed (8):
Brady (PA), Cohen (TN), McDermott (WA), Waters, Filner and Farr (CA), Moran (VA), Kilpatrick (MI)
The source for these alignments can be found here. The switch, recently reported, of Rep. Butterfield of NC from Edwards to Obama underscores how fluid this situation may become.
In the meantime, enjoy discussing the meaning of these alignments, and, please, for the sake of peace in dKos-land and elsewhere, try not to be too negative about the candidates of others; only Kucinich is really out front on this front, and he's not likely to be the nominee, so let's save the enmity for the GOP, OK?
There is certainly no claim here for predictive power in this analysis. Some of these are regional loyalties. Nor is everyone who's a co-sponsor of HR 333 a favorite of dKos folks. But I thought it could be interesting.
