Today we saw some great, positive developments in the ongoing battle between Obama and Clinton, especially in terms of the race wars that threaten to bring our party down.
- NAACP in California president Alice Huffman Endorses Clinton
"Over the years, Hillary Clinton has earned my respect as a staunch advocate for the rights of people invisible to our nation's government, including women, minorities, children, and seniors," said Huffman. "Hillary shares my commitment to children, and has been a lifelong advocate for improving childhood education and health care. As President, I feel strongly that Hillary will create an atmosphere in this country that accepts and promotes the rights of all Americans."
She is an accomplished fighter for Civil rights, and endorses Sen. Clinton only in knowing full well, that she would be the same! LINK
- Clinton spoke at MLK's birthday celebration in N.Y.C:
Original reports stated Boos and shouts of Obama were heard throughout the room, I don't hear that at all, and have heard those original reports to be greatly exxagerated. Hillary Clinton is known and respected in the A.A community in her home state of N.Y.
- Sen. Obama put out this statement:
You have seen a tone on the Democrat[ic] side of the campaign that has been unfortunate. I want to stipulate a couple of things. I may disagree with Senator Clinton and Senator Edwards on how to get there, but we share the same goals. We all believe in civil rights. We all believe in equal rights. They are good people. They are patriots....
I don't want the campaign at this stage to degenerate to so much tit-for-tat, back-and-forth, that we lose sight of why we are doing this.
Obama said he wants to send "a strong signal to my own supporters that let’s try to focus on the work that needs to get done. If I hear my own supporters engaging in talk that I think is ungenerous or misleading or unfair, I will speak out forcefully against it....
Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton have historically been on the right side of civil rights issues. They care about the African American community.... That is something I am convinced of. I want Americans to know that is my assessment.
Thank You, Sen. Obama! Very gracious, and I hope all supporters will follow on this more positive tone for the campaign.
Overall, I think these are positive steps in moving the conversation towards the issues. Division over race and gender will only serve to divide us as a party, and help the repugs win in November, something we can't allow...
Let's keep it substantive, and try to get along once in a while.
