Our candidates have been for quite some time making the case why each one of them is better than each other. Rather than criticize each other, let's just break out of this blame game and start criticizing Bush's presidency and the Republicans who love it so much. It's got a lot Americans are sick of, and let's, as persons of the Democratic party, nominate the candidate who most effectively makes the case against George W. Bush and the Republicans running for president, rather than seeking to nominate the candidate who "stands out" as the best Democrat. Below the fold please.
Some refreshers:
*President Bush has a lousy approval rating
*Republicans are more highly despised than Democrats.
*The GOP primary has been anything but Reagan's 11th commandment.
*The GOP is fractured and is a wounded duck.
*Clinton, Obama, and Edwards all bring exciting virtues to their candidacies that make them all highly qualified and desired to be in 1600 Penn. Ave.
*We know by now where our Dems stand on the issues, so it's time to stop railing against each other and time to start railing against the GOP.
Given all this, it makes sense for the Democrats to run AGAINST Bush, Romney, McCain, Giuliani, etc. NOW than run against each other. The GOP has been doing that all along with Rodham Clinton (Hillarycare, Hillary wants this and that, etc.), and it has helped keep her negatives high among many Americans. Why aren't we doing the same? Why aren't more Democrats acting like Joseph Biden when he said noun, verb, and 9/11 against Giuliani? We should be hitting Romney NOW on his flip flops and his laughable negative ads against his opponents. Our hearts should be pounding at the possibility of a Huckabee presidency for a multiethnic country such as our own. Our candidates should be raising HELL with the prospects of a McCain presidency that seeks to escalate our war operations at a time when our economy is beginning to recede, where our country's reputation is in the tanks, where Latin America has been all but ignored, where domestic policy issues have gone unnoticed for years, and where our military is already at a breaking point. Rudy Giuliani's divisiveness will be unhelpful for a country bitterly polarized after 8 years of Bush.
Whichever candidate most effectively makes the case against the GOP candidates deserves our support. We should not be emphasizing as much matters of race and gender, these are issues that only are working to divide us. Hillary Rodham Clinton is a smart candidate who has proven to be an effective politician, and one who knows how to work with Republicans to get things done without forgetting her base. Barack Obama offers the possibility of a refreshing presidency that can enjoy a longer-than-usual honeymoon period if elected into office. John Edwards is a progressive champion that can govern effectively, given the fact he is a "Washington Outsider" yet has done much in Washington to know what goes on.
The fact of the matter is, our Democratic candidate is at least good, and their candidates are out of touch. Let's get ahead of the ballgame and strike first. That would seriously wound their candidates and their party.
Update: Rebecca in the comments below made an excellent point I'd like to add. If we don't start tying the GOP candidates with Bush now, when the GOP nominee has been chosen, he is going to distance himself from Bush. We CANNOT let him get away with that. He must be held accountable!
