Back in the fall of 2006, bloggers were furiously looking into Sen. Joe Lieberman's campaign finance filings to try and determine which Republican interests were backing up the freshly Independent Connecticut Senator in his campaign to hold onto his Senate seat after being defeated in the Democratic primary. The only problem was that Lieberman's campaign finance reports were impossible to find. This is because Senators file their campaign finance data on paper, as opposed to electronically, requiring the FEC to painfully reenter all the data into computers so that you and I can access it. It takes months for the FEC to get all the data online and into your hands, thus 4th quarter campaign contributions don't get reported until after the election.
Sen. Russ Feingold has a bill in Congress to change this, but Republicans, particularly Sen. John Ensign, have been blocking passage so that they can continue to hide their shady fundraising during this crucial election period. This video should perfectly explain the issue and gives you some info on how to challenge Sen. Ensign.
If you want to know about Mitch McConnell's dirty campaign contributions before the election in 2008, this bill must pass. We can't let the Republicans continue to block good government to protect their contributors temporary anonymity.
