It has been awhile since I last wrote about our upcoming (and unexpected) addition and I thought I'd share how things are going. I've had my fill of political diaries and I thought that a baby diary would help soften the moods of some posters.
We never expected to have 3 children. My first child was born in 2002 and made his first foray into political expression during the anti-Iraq war march in NYC in 2003 in January or February. He's interested in politics which is great. He's still having a little trouble figuring out the primary system (we have an election to figure out who can run in the election?), but he's five, so I'm not worried. His little brother is a 2 and half year old bundle of trouble. He knows not to dance on the table or go near the wood fireplace/heater, but he also likes to draw on walls. Our upcoming addition is well on his/her way to being here.
We had an ultrasound a few days ago. Modern technology is amazing. I resisted the urge to try and figure out if we are going to have another boy or break a 100 year streak and have a girl.
The tech and the doctor both commented on the nice size of baby's brain. It's a strange complement when you realize they actually mean his/her brain, and not intellect. Mom's been feeling ok, but she can't bend over to pick things up which bothers her. She also has lost her sense of balance, what little there was of it, and I watched her slowly rock backwards onto the kitchen floor this evening as she squatted down to get something form the cabinet and ended up looking like a turtle. She laughed it off - what else can you do?
We are working on baby names now. We like unusual names and have used two biblical first names for our two boys with family names as middle names. We're leaning towards Clio for a girl and Milo for a boy. Nothing is set in stone, but we like them and haven't changed our minds in a long time.
I don't have too much to report, but so far, so good.
Pax vobiscum.
